Yor website has been hacked

If your website has been hacked, please follow the following steps:

  1. Check ALL computers that have an access to your website against viruses.
  2. Change ALL passwords (FTP, cPanel) for your website.
  3. If a website is doesn't work anymore — please fix it, or restore it from a backup via hosting control panel.
  4. If your website is running a CMS system, please update it to the latest version, and change it's administrative password.

Your website is infected with viruses

When viewing a website with a Mozilla Firefox browser, a "Reported Attack Error!" error appears. This means that you should:

  1. Check steps 1 — 4 from a previous paragraph.
  2. Check your website's script for any suspicious additions, like <iframe>, <script> etc.
  3. After removing a suspicious code, please use Google Webmaster Central to remove this sign, as it will be removed automatically only in the next two weeks.

How to protect yourself from being hacked

  1. Do not use simple passwords, like "john1980", "america18" or "ilovebritneyspears". Such passwords take about 10 to 30 minutes to hack. Always use symbols and digits, uppercase and lowercase letters.
  2. Do not access your account from public locations, such as internet cafe, as there may be a keylogger installed.
  3. Do not store your passwords in e-mails, on papers, stickers etc. The best vault for your passwords is your head. It's easier to get a new password than loosing your important data.
  4. Do not use old open-source scripts, as there are a lot of ways to hack an outdated script. Always use the latest version and update it as soon as there's a new version available.
  5. Do not send your passwords by email to anyone you don't know personally, as it's very easy to hijack the return address of an e-mail, and always ask for a confirmation.
  6. Use a secure web browser like Firefox, Opera, Safari or Chrome. Internet Explorer is a great browser, but unfortunately it is great in catching viruses too.
  7. Do not use any "Remeber password" offers. Any virus could easily steal such a password.
  8. Always use an antivirus software and have a firewall activated, the most common way of hacking a website is to infect webmaster's computer and steal a "reminded" password from the FTP application config file.
